4×4 South Africa: What You Need To Know
Should you own a 4×4, Mozambique is yours to explore from North to South and East to West. The country ranks amongst the most beautiful and exciting in the world and offers many breath-taking locations that are still virtually undiscovered. Whilst it is possible to see most of this beautiful country by road or air, nothing can quite compare to a 4×4 journey from one exciting destination to the next.
Any Mozambique 4×4 adventurer should however realize that simply owning a 4×4 does not automatically make you a good off-road driver. It is very important to receive adequate training, especially if you want to conquer off-the-beaten-track destinations where there might not be another human being in sight. You need to make sure that you understand your vehicle and that you will be able to handle your 4×4 in any situation – no matter how mild or challenging
There are a number of obstacles that should be approached with a bit more caution than others. One such an obstacle is mud. Never assume that what you see in front of you is just a shallow puddle of mud. If you don’t know the area, you can’t make such assumptions. Just imagine how unimpressed you would be if the “tiny mud hole” turns out to be a donga large enough to swallow your entire vehicle. If you want to cross a mud hole it is a good idea to get out of your vehicle and investigate the depth of the hole first. Use a stick or similar object to test not only the depth, but also the surface of the obstacle, just to make sure your 4×4 is capable of handling it.
Before you go on a long Mozambique 4×4 expedition, you need to practise on short obstacle courses and test your 4×4 on different terrains. Also make sure that you know what to do when your vehicle gets stuck. It is a good idea to always travel with at least one other 4×4 if you want to tackle such adventurous routes, just in case. You never know when you might land in trouble and need someone to tow you out.
